The Lady Commandos played their second to last home game of the season at newly named Griffin-Crandell Field. The game was shortened to six innings due to rain with the Lady Commandos trailing by a score of 8-2. Unfortunately, the game could not finish and the score remained the same for a final. Portland got on the board first with two runs in the second inning off four hits and one error. Portland would get five runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead. The five runs came off six hits. Hendersonville would cut into the lead with a run in the fourth inning. Lindsey Munn would start off the inning with a single. Followed by a Alex Walker single, and a double by Becca Griffin to score Lindsey. A double play would cut the inning short. Portland would add one more run in the final inning (6th) to take a 8-1 lead. The final run of the shortened game by the Lady Commandos came in the bottom of the sixth. Alex Walker would double to lead off the inning and score on a single by Becca Griffin. Ashleigh Stratton would finish 1-1 with a single and two walks. Alex Walker would go 3-3 with two singles, a double, and run scored. Becca Griffin would also go 3-3 with two singles, a double, and two RBI's.
Brooke Biggerstaff picked up the loss on the day pitching 3 and 1/3 innings. Julia Meade would pitch the rest of the game for HHS.
There was no JV game today, due to the weather. The Lady Commandos will partake in a JV tournament at Davidson Academy on Saturday. The Varsity will conclude the regular season at home on Monday, which is Senior Day, against Lebanon. The final regular season game will be at Gallatin on Tuesday. The district tournament will begin next Friday with the higher seeds hosting the first round. The rest of the tournament will take place in Mt. Juliet. More details to come as the district tournament gets closer. We hope to see everybody at the park on Monday to wish off these two Seniors.
